Handful is a coming-of-age short film about the slow, tender work of becoming, of coming out, and coming to know oneself. Wren, the main character, is drawn from my own memories of growing up in a loving yet quietly heteronormative world, where acceptance had limits, I couldn’t name. Handful holds this tension, the ache of hiding and the quiet relief of being seen. This film is a love letter to my younger self, who longed for a reflection of their own becoming, and to queer youth everywhere carving space to exist freely.- Cogie Cogan, Producer/Writer/Lead Actor
Handful follows Wren as they navigate adolescence and early queer identity shaped by the subtle influences of their upbringing. Moving between past and present, the film explores how childhood experiences—both spoken and unspoken—inform Wren’s sense of self and the ways they learn to exist in the world.
